Five Element Acupuncture
Janicon XLII, Paul Feiler, 2001
Classical Five Element Acupuncture...
originates from the Taoist traditions of Ancient China. In these teachings, humans are placed alongside the rest of nature, equally important and intrinsic. As with all nature, our health and wellbeing depend on our alignment with the natural laws and rhythms of life. FEA realigns and re-syncs our own system with these.
FEA differs from its modernised counterpart TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) in that it focuses on diagnosing the main cause of imbalance. Rather than treating a particular problematic symptom, the cause is treated. This ignites a process of self-healing and by consequence, treats the main symptom together with other symptoms experienced, so the body mind and spirit can return to homeostasis and their optimum state of health. Each one of us is a totally unique individual with our own unique experience of life. FEA enables us to find our way back onto our unique right path, which in turn enables us to fully engage and get the most out of our life. Enjoyment and wellbeing can flood back to us.
A multitude of symptoms can be treated from depression to self-doubt to physical pain. For couples wanting to get pregnant FEA can also greatly aid and improve the chance of conception. Whilst major advanced health conditions may not be treatable with Acupuncture, it can give support and enable someone to achieve the optimum state of health in body mind and spirit available to them, thus enabling the best possible experience of life through difficult times.
Frequently Asked Questions
How can Five Element Acupuncture can help you?
-
As well as addressing a particular symptom or set of symptoms, Five Element Acupuncture treats the underlying cause, thus enabling the entire system to come back into balance, ensuring that the body, mind and spirit is in an optimum state to heal itself. As well as directly addressing symptoms, treatments act as preventative care to make sure minimal new symptoms are experienced going forwards.
What can I expect in my first appointment?
-
The first appointment will last up to 1.5 hours. First we’ll talk about you and your experience of life. Any symptoms or problems you have which cause your life to be more difficult than it could be. I want to get to know you and what I can help you with, so we can get straight to the cause with a minimal amount of needles. You will then get onto the Acupuncture bed and I will locate the points to be used. These may be on your back, chest, your forearms/ hands or your lower legs/ feet. It’s best to wear loose fitting clothing, so these areas can be easily accessed. In later treatments points on other areas of the body may be used.
What conditions can be treated with Acupuncture?
-
Acupuncture can treat a multitude of symptoms. Some extreme or long standing issues can’t be reversed, but the discomfort or hinderance can be eased and the overall wellbeing and experience of life can be improved. Please get in touch for more advice and information.
How many treatments will I need?
-
It’s best to commit to at least four regular treatments to begin with, ideally every week. This gives an opportunity for me to really get to know you and your system and make sure that the outcomes are as beneficial as possible and they hold into the future. From this point onwards we can re-assess what’s needed. Either we can cut the frequency of appointments down, or you can simply judge for yourself when you feel you need a treatment. It’s a really good idea to have treatments at the changes of the seasons and mid winter, at these times we’re more vulnerable to going out of balance.
Is Acupuncture painful?
-
The needles used are very small and fine. Five Element acupuncture follows the law of least action. This means that only a minimal amount of needles are used. The fewer the better, whilst also ensuring the most appropriate points are selected. You may feel a slight stinging sensation which will quickly ease, then you’ll be asked to say when you feel a different sensation, usually like a dull deep ache. As soon as you feel this sensation, the needle will be removed. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it’s not generally an uncomfortable experience. Most people find that they don’t mind and even begin to enjoy treatments once they’ve got used to the different sensations.
Are the needles sterile?
-
Yes, each needle is single use and pre packed in sterile packaging.
What should I wear for treatments?
-
It’s best to wear loose fitting clothing, so that it’s easy to access the points. It’s also best to wear minimal or ideally no makeup or perfume/ fragrance. The reason for this is that these can mask some of the signals used to diagnose the cause of imbalance.
